Monster Energy Supercross: The Official Videogame 5

Back in 2018, I analyzed the original Monster Energy Supercross game, and I still recall how much I like it. Despite this, we still receive a new game in the series every year, which makes me wonder whether it’s actually essential. I’m sure the license agreement requires Milestone to release a new Monster Energy Supercross game every year, but it results in games that are really difficult to distinguish from one another. I had no clue what to anticipate from Monster Energy Supercross 5 after analyzing Monster Energy Supercross 4 last year. It had just sunk. It sprang out of nowhere, and for the most part, it’s very much the same game as last year’s, with a few tweaks here and there.

Monster Energy Supercross 5

Monster Energy Supercross 5 is the most accessible in the series, with easier difficulty levels and more configurable aids and physics.

Technically, this year’s game is identical to the previous year’s version. Tracks that look good and are detailed, however the character models are terrible. It seems to be… satisfactory. It plays smoothly at 60 frames per second, but this is far beyond what a next-gen system is capable of. The sound design is also similar to the previous version, as is the list of modes. A long career mode, online multiplayer, single races, and the same circuit designer as past Monster Energy Supercross games are all included. This isn’t the key selling point for this edition. In truth, there aren’t many, but if I had to choose one, it would have to be its more approachable aspect when compared to its predecessors.

Monster Energy Supercross 5 Daytona

In Daytona, this is the only time you’ll turn right.

Most of the motocross/supercross racing games I’ve played in the past haven’t been very welcoming to newcomers. Those physics are difficult to master since you must consider your rider’s balance as well as the direction you’re spinning your bike. Monster Energy Supercross 5 has been updated to incorporate even simpler difficulty levels and more configurable physics, allowing newbies to enjoy the game just as much as series veterans. Lowering the difficulty allows for more forgiving collisions, longer rewinding intervals, and, of course, less intelligent AI opponents. However, if you learn how to play the game properly, it’ll just be another Monster Energy Supercross. As a result, the sole major innovation in this rendition will appeal to novices rather than series veterans.

Content

The remainder of the game is much the same as previously…

Monster Energy Supercross 5 is, like its predecessor, a fun racing game. I like how a few additional assistance and difficulty levels have been included to make the game more enticing and accessible to newbies. That being said, any of those enhancements might have been patched into the game’s predecessor. I honestly don’t believe this brand need an annual release, given there isn’t anything that distinguishes this game from the one released in 2021. If you’re a motocross rookie looking to get your feet wet, Monster Energy Supercross 5 is a terrific place to start. If you’re not a newbie, simply play the game from last year. You’ll hardly notice a change in any case.

There hasn’t been much alteration since last year’s version. It seems to be adequate in terms of detail, but I am certain Milestone can do better. Monster Energy Supercross 5 is more approachable to newbies to the genre thanks to a number of new assistance and softer difficulty levels.
It still has above-average alt-metal bangers playing during races, less passionate indie tracks playing on the menus, and average-at-best vocal commentary before to each race’s start. It’s a little more user-friendly and approachable for newbies, but it’s still much too identical to its predecessors. Its presence as a full-fledged sequel isn’t really justified.
Final Score: 7.0
