Cryptocurrency has had a huge impact on the world of gaming. The rise of blockchain allows for new types of games, such as collectibles, to be created and traded with ease. But is this potential being realized? Are there any pitfalls that should be avoided? This blog post will explore some possible solutions to ensure NFTs are actually used in ways they were meant to be- throughout the playing experience rather than just at home or during downtime

“NFTs in games” is a hot topic that has been debated on numerous occasions. It’s important to be informed and know the potential of this technology before jumping into a debate with NFT enthusiasts. Here are some resources for an informed debate. Read more in detail here: using nfts in games.

“Trust me Bro, you just don’t understand the potential of NFTs!” — a few resources for an informed debate with NFTs enthusiasts.

We’ve all met at least one such person on social media or in person, and if you haven’t, you will: the NFT enthusiast who dismisses your skepticism or irony by claiming that NFTs are the future of gaming, and that if you disagree, “you haven’t done enough research,” because “if game developers like them, it means there’s something you haven’t considered.”

Because I believe this is such an important issue, I’ve compiled a short collection of online resources that include in-depth examinations of NFTs, the blockchain technology that underpins them, their culture, and how they are marketed. To effectively fight a large marketing drive for the use of NFTs in games, I believe we need to be well-informed and able to enlighten others.

Here’s the rundown:

  • how nfts create value - “Trust me Bro, you just don’t understand the potential of NFTs!” — a few resources for an informed debate with NFTs enthusiasts. How NFTs Create Value is the article on the list that is more pro-NFT, although it provides a fair picture of the NFT economy (primarily in the context of the “art” sector) and explains how profit is produced. They also highlight a few challenges and roadblocks, although in a rather upbeat tone. For the purpose of fairness, I believe it is worthwhile to read it first in order to avoid being biased.
  • The Third Web is perhaps the most complete (and longest) article on our list, providing a full overview/explanation of the whole Web3 phenomena, including the shift from Web2 to Web3, blockchain, and NFTs. It starts off as a fairly impartial analysis, but the second half delves into the technological and ethical issues surrounding Web3 and NFTs.
  • We Deserve Better than NFTs makes a compelling argument against NFTs, focusing on their usage in videogames in particular, and usefully pointing out how the NFT frenzy should not overshadow the discussion about digital ownership, particularly when it comes to digital games/items and personal data. Other sources, including other articles in this list, are also linked.
  • Web3 is Bullshit is a programming criticism of Web3, describing how and why “the blockchain provides nothing new or meaningful to the universe of technology,” as you may have anticipated.
  • My first impressions of web3 is a technical criticism of Web3 and NFTs published by a software engineer that shows how all the “decentralization” hype is more of a buzzword than a reality.
  • NFT Fantasy: Why Items-as-NFTs Does Not Enable Transfer Of Assets Between Games is a thorough technical debunking of the notion that NFTs in videogames (be they skins or items) would ever be “movable,” demonstrating in detail why this is both a technical impossibility and a marketing ploy.
  • Finally, as artworks and in games, is arguably the final slam dunk on the NFT phenomena. It’s a video, not an article, and it’s almost two hours long. But it is so well researched and well-presented that I highly advise you to watch it and forward it to friends and family who are curious in NFTs.

There’s definitely a lot more out there, but I believe this is a good start (and feel free to add to it!). After reading/watching all of this stuff, I really doubt that any rational person (at least one without a large financial commitment in NFTs) could continue to support this phenomena. NFT proponents, on the other hand, should be able to provide strong counterarguments to all of the above.

Next time you’re discussing with an NFT enthusiast, calmly explain why saying things like “Trust me dude, it’s the future” or spouting nebulous marketing lingo from executives won’t cut it, and demand a very detailed explanation of how all the problems with the NFT phenomena can be handled and remedied.

They won’t be able to.

Patch 4.2, as well as the perk reroll update, were fantastic. However, there was a catch: we now have eight more resources to grind. Uncommon re-perk…

  • EAC consumes a lot of resources.

I’ve tried it many times and come to the same conclusion each time: EAC (aka EasyAntiCheat) uses too many system resources. Case 1: Play the game as usual (with EAC). Reduce the game’s size. Activate Task Manager. It takes around 5 seconds to open. Windows Explorer’s CPU use has increased noticeably. Open the sound/volume controls…
