Inscryption is one of the most popular and unique block-building games on Roblox, which has a large user base. Recently, it was revealed that Kaycee’s Mod could be used to hack into other player accounts without their consent (and potentially gain access to private information). I discuss what this means for the game in general and how Inscryption might devise a way to fix this issue with some security measures.,
Since its debut, Inscryption by Daniel Mullins Games has received virtually unanimous praise, and for good reason. It blends a really engaging and unexpectedly accessible card gaming experience with a complex and compelling meta story to produce a game that none of us will soon forget. After finishing the game, many fans had one modest request: they wanted more of Leshy’s roguelike from the first chapter. We asked, and the devs responded. So, in Inscryption, what is Kaycee’s Mod?
In Inscryption, what is Kaycee’s Mod?
Kaycee’s Mod, named after the game’s protagonist Kaycee Hobbes, is an attempt by the creators to turn Leshy’s deck-building roguelike game into a standalone experience. The devs began working on Kaycee’s Mod from the ground up last month, and it’s now in an open beta phase that anybody who owns Inscryption may play for free. This is precisely what you’ve been waiting for if you wanted more from Leshy’s perilous journey across the bush.
Each run of Kaycee’s Mod pits you against Leshy’s three bosses in a different sequence, ending in a showdown with Leshy himself. You’ll be able to clear the run if you defeat him. If you don’t, you’re already aware. As you complete runs and progress through stages, you’ll discover additional game mechanics and narrative in the form of Kaycee’s development logs.
To make things interesting, you’ll be asked to activate numerous skulls before starting a run. To increase the difficulty, these skulls impose restrictions or changes to the game’s rules. Every skull you activate increases the challenge points for the run, and you must reach a particular point level to access additional items. If you turn off the challenges, you may still play the game; but, you will not be able to unlock anything if you win.
New features to the game are unlocked through clearing runs and boosting your challenge level, including but not limited to:
- New playing cards
- New sigils have appeared.
- New objects that may be used
- Additional skulls for the task
Unlike in the main game, there is no final objective here (at least not for now). Kaycee’s Mod is for for those who loved Leshy’s game and want to get even more enjoyment out of it.
Inscryption: How to Get Kaycee’s Mod
If you want to check out Kaycee’s Mod for yourself, right-click the game in your Steam library, choose properties, and then go to the Betas page. The beta isn’t in the drop-down list in order to make things all metatextual. You must instead type the following password inside the text box: “givemeascensionmode.” The beta will show in the list when you input that code, enabling you to opt-in and redownload the game’s data.
You must first go to the title screen after starting the game. If you’ve previously completed the game (which you should do before doing this), you’ll have to restart it from chapter 1 in order to get to the title screen. The Kaycee’s Mod button will display on the title screen if you hold Shift+K+M on your keyboard.
It’s worth noting that since this feature is currently in development, it’s riddled with errors, malfunctions, and crashes. Because the creators aren’t sure how the beta files will mesh with the main game’s data yet, they suggest backing up your save file before opting into the beta, as well as abstaining from playing the regular game while opted in. If you come across an issue while playing Kaycee’s Mod, there’s a built-in bug reporting feature that you can use to send a polite notice to the developers.
