NVIDIA’s popular streaming media devices, the SHIELD TV and SHIELD TV PRO, are getting a new update.

The new upgrade, dubbed SHIELD Experience 9.0, brings the newest version of Google’s omnipresent operating system, Android 11, to both devices. Users will also notice a number of new features, including as a redesigned Google Keyboard (Gboard), support for aptX-compatible Bluetooth headphones, new applications like IMDb TV, and additional GeForce NOW member advantages.

“With the new GeForce NOW RTX 3080 membership, gamers around the world are upgrading their SHIELD TVs into a powerful GeForce RTX 3080-class gaming rig, unlocking extraordinary 4K HDR graphics exclusively on SHIELD, as well as immersive 7.1 surround sound,” NVIDIA wrote about its game streaming service.

“The SHIELD update adds additional features to all GeForce NOW subscribers. Twitch has been improved to allow for high-quality gameplay and broadcasting at the same time. Additional Bluetooth keyboards and mouse are now supported as well.”

SHIELD Experience 9.0 improvements include:

  • Android security patch level September 2021 is included.
  • Support for Bluetooth headphones that are aptX compliant has been added.
  • When the user goes to sleep, the option to automatically disconnect Bluetooth devices is included.
  • Adds the ability to match the audio resolution of the material (high resolution audio)
  • Gboard now has a new keyboard option.
  • Adds a new Energy Saver mode for even more power flexibility.
  • XBOX, Playstation, and SHIELD controllers now include Stadia buttons.
  • Fixes for further bugs

The SHIELD TV and SHIELD TV PRO from NVIDIA are priced at $149.99 and $199.99, respectively. The premium variant has an extra 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, and two USB 3.0 ports instead of a MicroSD card.
