The “steam summer sale” is a time when gamers can grab some of the best games for a discounted price. There are so many games to choose from that it’s hard to know where to start.
Because I’m not an economist, I don’t fully get the reasoning behind the pricing set by game companies during huge sales. Everything would cost $20 or less if it were up to me, but I suppose that’s why I don’t work for a game publisher. Even if it’s not quite to that level, Steam’s large sale events usually contain their fair share of discount curveballs, and there’s no better time to purchase if you’re wanting to fill out your collection with current classics. It’s a lot better than being crushed on Black Friday. The Steam Autumn Sale runs from November 24th to December 1st, and here are some of the finest titles to pick up.

One of the most enticing aspects of the huge Steam sale events is the chance to acquire near-new, big-budget games at a discount. For example, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was just released about a month ago, yet it’s already on sale, and a good one at that.
If you like Marvel comics, the Guardians of the Galaxy, or extremely cinematic games like the Uncharted series, you’ll enjoy Peter Quill and company’s crazy escapades. Even if you don’t, the soundtrack is chock-full of legendary 80s and 90s tunes. You haven’t experienced action until Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” has been played over it.

In many cases that I can think of, sequels that take an eternity to arrive generally disappoint everyone. This was not one of those instances in Psychonauts 2. I had been waiting 15 years for this game to come out, and it was all I had hoped for.
Psychonauts 2 is a terrific experience that mixes outstanding platforming with witty and amusing writing and highly innovative level design, even if you’ve never played the first Psychonauts (though you definitely should).

Even after all these years, I’m still not sure what to think about Death Stranding, and I’m sure I’m not alone. While what may be the world’s most intricate walking simulator is the exact definition of nonstandard game design, Death Stranding’s sheer production value makes it something worth experiencing at least once in your life, simply to say you did. And, well, who can say no at that price?

Do you ever happen to come across an independent game on Steam’s new release list by coincidence and say to yourself, “I need to check what the deal is with this?” For me, Everhood was one of those games, and I’m grateful for that.
Everhood has a particular visual aesthetic, similar to a cassette of an old cartoon that has been sitting on the shelf for far too long. This, paired with a fight system that combines quick dodging with some truly funky sounds, results in a psychedelic trip you won’t soon forget.

When everything else fails, there’s always the rip and tear option. While many shooters nowadays have a propensity to reuse mechanics, DOOM Eternal has done its utmost to stay true to the franchise’ origins.
Isn’t it nice that there’s so little between you and swarms of demonic invaders? It’s just you, them, and an arsenal of inventive murder in your trousers to employ as much as humanly possible, plus a little bit more. DOOM Eternal has a chainsaw with your name on it if you simply want a straight-up, all-action shooter.

With games like Alan Wake and Quantum Break, Remedy has been quietly building something similar to a cinematic world for years. The next major step in that universe is Control, which puts you in charge of a top-secret agency entrusted with regulating the world’s strange and incomprehensible happenings.
This is the closest you’ll come to a tour of the SCP Organization if you’ve ever wanted to. This discount, by the way, is for the Ultimate Edition of Control, which includes all of the DLC packs at no additional cost.

Outer Wilds is a thinking man’s game that, despite its simple idea, should not be taken lightly. The whole game is one giant interplanetary puzzle, which is made much more difficult by time looping everytime the sun goes supernova.
You must be skilled at sifting through minute information and be able to do it rapidly. Outer Wilds’ space exploration mechanics, in addition to the laser-precision design, truly bring you in touch with the serene beauty of the limitless vacuum, as well as the distinct terror and loneliness that come with it.

When it was revealed that the Yakuza series would be transitioning from an action game to a JRPG, I had no clue what to expect, but it turned out to be a match made in heaven. Yakuza’s characteristic narrative style and densely filled overworld blend surprisingly well with turn-based RPG fights, owing in part to the series’ new protagonist, novice Yakuza and Dragon Quest superfan Ichiban Kasuga. Ichiban’s path from unlawful incarceration to local hero is full of hilarious, dramatic, and emotional twists and turns.
