The Godfather Digitally Restored - The Greatest Classic That Is Impossible To Refuse

RETRO FILM — The Godfather, the greatest gangster film of all time, was released half a century ago. Francis Ford Coppola’s digitally restored MASTERPIECE is being re-released in limited quantities in theatres throughout the globe to commemorate the occasion.

Many great films have been inspired by organized crime, but The Godfather, starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, is possibly the most influential of them. Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 film, which bridged the gap between family, drama, and gangster film, was released in Hungary ten years later, in 1982, and not only did it bring a gripping story to the screen, but it also excelled in its depiction of the New York mafia wars after WWII, a powerful film that also stands out for its setting. The narrative of the Corleone family from 1945 to 1955 is still with us fifty years later, thanks to meticulous detail and great performances. The film is a vivid representation of the Italian-born mafia machine that became one of the world’s most feared multinational forces, with frightening events and showdowns in its time. It is based on Mario Puzo’s book of the same name.

RETRO FILM - Fél évszázaddal ezelőtt került a mozikba minden idők legnagyobb gengszterfilmje, A Keresztapa. Az évforduló alkalmából Francis Ford Coppola digitálisan felújított klasszikusa korlátozott számban kerül ismét a mozikba világszerte. Magyarországon február 10-től egy héten át csak a Cinema MOM-ban vetítik.

It included some of Hollywood’s most well-known actors.

The Godfather’s cult appeal is due in part to its outstanding casting. As Don Vito Corleone, Coppola cast Marlon Brando. He earned a Golden Globe and an Oscar for his outstanding performance in the latter (he did not accept the latter but sent an Indian woman to the awards ceremony with a message instead). The second key character is Don Corleone’s son, Michael Corleone, who was initially wary of the family business but took over when his father and brother were assassinated. Many stars of the period were considered for the part, but Coppola insisted on a young actor with genuine Italian ancestry. His judgment proved to be ideal: despite the fact that the young Al Pacino had only performed in a few tiny films before to this, his performance persuaded spectators and the studio of his enormous ability. James Caan, Robert Duvall, Richard Castellano, and Diane Keaton were among the supporting cast members that provided remarkable performances in the picture. Gordon Willis, the “Rembrandt of cinematography,” brings The Godfather’s unique visual to life with his superb use of color, light and dark, and dramatic camera angles. Finally, Nino Rota’s iconic Grammy-winning soundtrack is intrinsically tied to the film’s success.

The picture was plagued by scandals.

A TV series on the making of The Godfather is already in the works, highlighting the little-known reality that the greatest MASTERPIECE in movie history was impeded by a series of problems. Coppola was often sacked by the studio, and Marlon Brando and Al Pacino were replaced by different performers. Not only was Mario Puzo, the novel’s author, not left alone: he had a public spat with Frank Sinatra because the Hollywood star and singer had created a name for himself in one of the characters, Johnny Fontane, but the mafia also jeopardized the film’s development. This is the topic of a new Paramount+ miniseries called The Offer, which will premiere shortly.

A huge classic that has never gone out of style.

Coppola was finally able to bring his idea to fruition. He became a world-famous filmmaker with this epic picture, which won three of the 11 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and, alongside Mario Puzo, Best Screenplay, as well as other festival honors. His remarkable characters, memorable moments, and memorable conversation have been indelibly engraved in twentieth-century pop culture, especially as memes on social media.

Fifty years after its first theatrical release, Paramount Studios has entirely restored the picture and will re-release it on the big screen in a limited series of screenings in select theaters across the globe in February, under the professional guidance of Coppola. The film will be shown in Hungary for a week, from 10 to 16 February, in the newly rebuilt Theater MOM cinema in MOM Park, which is equipped with armchairs and will show the film in its original language with Hungarian subtitles.
