Ruined King: A League Of Legends Story – For King and Runeterra

ANALYSIS– Riot is promoting not just League of Legends as a MOBA, but also platformers and action-adventure games. Now there’s an isometric RPG, so more people can claim it’s a LoL; I mean, LOL tale, since all of these games have/are labeled A League of Legends Story, which is – how should I put it? – all over our faces.

Ruined King takes place in Runeterra. The game, which was revealed in 2019, adds to the League of Legends universe, which I’ll refer to as LoL from here on out. Because it’s an isometric, team-based RPG, League Of Legends Story games may reveal additional information about specific heroes if you’re interested in the MOBA background universe (or, as they call them, Champions). Riot has a lot of promise in this manner since there are so many of them, and they’re not only doing it in video games (because there’s Arcane on Netflix).

Pirates, street gangs, and other abominations

Bilgewater is full of pirates and street gangs, and… Isles of the Shadow isn’t much better, but they’re also worth a look. Our first character is Miss Fortune, who fancies herself a pirate queen but is far from it; she wants to unify the gangs under her rule, and she begins to exterminate within a short period. Then there’s Pyke, who is a serial murderer who is half living, half dead (that term probably applies to me as well). They’re also the good guys in a plot that, although on the surface, raises moral concerns, doesn’t when you dig deeper. I’m not going to talk about everyone since there are six of them, each with their own narrative to tell, and we can anticipate character development as Ruined King unfolds.

By the way, Bilgewater is topped by a trinity of Silent Hill-style fog, terror, and tormented souls; this occurrence is known as Harrowing, and the onslaught from the sea is not without risk, so our brigade headed for the islands to make peace. Meanwhile, there are changes inside the squad, and as a consequence, Yasuo, who was previously chilly and restrained, begins to open up, thanks to Braum’s great storytelling. But why am I bringing this up? Because it creates an atmosphere. We’re not dealing with unrelated characters, and because I don’t have much to say about the dubbing, you never know what to anticipate, so those who play League Of Legends Story on a regular basis may have a fair experience, and those who don’t (points at self) can at least unwind in between bouts. However, this is just one side of the story.

Shadow Isles

While it’s safe to get into Ruined King without having any prior knowledge of the League Of Legends story, it doesn’t imply the product will last in the long run since, well, let’s just say the fighting is about as fresh as it gets. Okay, there’s the lanes feature from League of Legends, where you may utilize more powerful attacks in three lanes depending on whether you want to strike your opponent harder or quicker. And if we can get over that, or better yet, by then, we could notice that the game’s UI is lacking. Also, when I open DRS in F1 games, the instructional button appears, and I have to stare at it for a second to make it go away permanently, and the same thing occurs here. There are a lot of tutorials that could be transformed into poetry, but instead, let’s wonder whether the overuse of tutorials at the cost of the user experience hasn’t harmed Ruined King too much.

Oh, and owing to the difficulty level leaping up and down, you may look for mission symbols on the map, which can quickly remind you of locating a needle amongst bales of hay, and then pull your hair out because the struggle has become so thorny that they’ve certainly spoilt it. Okay, I’ll just use potions. Oh, they’re pricey… (I could say that about a lot of things now.) As a result, the experience isn’t flawless, and it may be claimed that this is due to difficulties with the underlying architecture. But, oh well.

King Has Been Destroyed

With its turn-based fights, Ruined King: A League Of Legends Story earns a seven-and-a-half since I didn’t like for the art style, and although it might be called to match the LoL style, anybody who plays the MOBA should regard it as an eight. It’s a fair game, but in the long term, it may only appeal to fans. No, for others. Oh, and one more question: do you know who created the game? The term Airship Syndicate may be recognizable to you since, two years ago, they were the creators of Darksiders: Mega Drive… I mean Genesis. Oh, and the game is available on other platforms as well: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One (and, thanks to backwards compatibility, it’s also playable on consoles launched in November), and it performs well on all of them.

Pro:

+ Well-developed characters and their interplay + You don’t need to be familiar with LoL + Good voice acting

Against:

– The user interface – One-size-fits-all warfare – Difficulty spikes
