Is it possible to develop anything more bad than Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, a picture that managed to make Paul Anderson’s flicks seem like masterpieces? Resident Evil fans will be able to answer that question this summer, as Netflix has revealed that Resident Evil, a live-action series based on Capcom’s fan-favorite survival horror classic, will premiere on July 14. The show stars Lance Reddick, a brilliant actor known for his work on The Wire and appearances in games like Quantum Break and Horizon Zero Dawn (Forbidden West could have used a lot more of him), but the synopsis doesn’t sound promising for fans hoping for a show that follows the games more closely.

- Resident Evil will present a whole new tale over two timelines, based on one of the most popular and best-selling survival horror video games of all time.
- Jade and Billie Wesker, fourteen-year-old sisters, are relocated to New Raccoon City in the first timeline. A manufactured, corporate community thrust upon them in the midst of adolescence. But the longer they stay, the more they discover that the town is more than meets the eye, and that their father may be hiding deadly secrets. Secrets that have the potential to ruin the whole planet.
- Cut to the second timeline, which is well over a decade in the future: the world’s population has shrunk to fewer than fifteen million individuals. And more than six billion monsters — T-virus-infected humans and animals. Jade, now thirty, is struggling to live in the New World as her previous mysteries — about her sister, father, and herself – continue to plague her.
