In a recent video, Nathan Grayson (Senior Editor at Kotaku) made the claim that line items had been shuffled in some games.
This led to widespread discussion about whether or not it was true and what its effects would be if it was. While this may have started out as a bug, now many developers are using this as an opportunity to change their systems of gameplay so they can avoid future accusations like these. Would you want your favorite game giant to shuffle line items?

The “http request smuggling apache fix” is a video that shows how to solve the 0 Cap Vendor bug in Line Item Shuffling.

Video proof of 0 Cap Vendor Bug - Line Item Shuffling is root of issue

Hi all,

Here’s a video showing the 0 cap Vending Bug in action.

It seems that line item shuffle is causing the problems once again.

You can see the GunsNAmmo 5s for sale in my vending for 500 caps each after I price the flawlessly preserved pie. I wanted to reprice them, so I pulled them from vending as normal.

However, when I went down, you’ll note that they’re now all on distinct “lines,” rather than stacking. You can see that one GunsNAmmo5 is recognized as being in a display in another CAMP, but the rest of the GunsNAmmo5s are not, yet they are still on separate lines.

Please note that I had to browse through numerous other GunsNAmmo5’s that said they WERE on exhibit at this CAMP, despite the fact that the CAMP I was on had no magazines on display at all. So it was odd as well.

I attempted to reprice two of the magazines to 350 caps apiece, but the game immediately repriced them to 0 caps each!

I attempted to remove them from vending again, since this was definitely a malfunction, but as you can see, I was unable to do so properly; instead, I had to take them back into my own inventory to remove them from vending.

I hope this is of some assistance to Bethesda.

EDIT: I sent a support request to Bethesda.net with a link to the video and a detailed explanation, and they responded with a cut-and-paste response: “We appreciate your report of this occurrence and will forward the specifics to the development team for evaluation.” so maybe that will help.

I was also asked how to prevent/combat this problem below, so I decided I’d put my meandering response here:

But, with this evidence, how can we go about avoiding this bug?

That is the most important question!

In this case, it appears that we can see the price change to whatever the game decides (in this case, 0 caps), but luckily, we can combat this by quickly checking your stash or vending after adding/removing items from vending- or, to be extra safe, you can do this right after logging in to ensure everything is priced correctly.

I swear that being on a server where you can’t CAMP and then continue to add/remove items from your stash may cause line item errors.

Also, I believe a problem arises from having many CAMP slots with various items on show throughout the various CAMPS; I had major troubles with my display cases; stuff started vanishing! When I was on one CAMP and browsing through my cache, I would often see products that appeared to be shown in that CAMP but were really in an inactive CAMP.

Also, while examining stash in other CAMPS, things that are genuinely on display in other CAMPS seem to be missing, therefore if you choose to remove them from your stash, line item shuffling happens. And you’re not even aware of it!

I think that line item shuffles don’t always influence your vending since the shuffled items aren’t always right above or below an item that is now in your vending… because the shuffled object is then swapped with the next closest thing (this is where the game becomes perplexing!)

I’m not sure whether this is a bug or not, but has anybody else noticed that when you add/remove items from your vending machine, the total count of vending slots does not change until you exit and then re-enter it? It may be something…

I previously posted here about an issue where when I added 556 ammo from my personal inventory to my vending (on top of the 556 that was already in vending), the game created a new line item right below the existing 556 for the 556 I was adding to the vending- so that tiny thing then made a completely different thing in my stash, a weapon, get added to my vending for like 0 or 1 caps or something sup. But this time I got the footage you see above!!

So, here’s how to deal with it:

If your stash box inventory changes or you change/update pricing in your vending, take the time to double check your prices in your vending. I realize this is harsh, but I can’t think of any other option without completely eliminating your vending, deleting all display products, or having just one camp and never change camps…

If you find any goods in your stockpile that SHOULD be piled but aren’t (and aren’t marked as on display in another CAMP since it would divide up item stacks), be cautious about adding them to your personal inventory!

To my knowledge, the only method to prevent the goods from being shown separately is to take them into your personal inventory and then return them to your stash. However, this might be the source of the problem.

Do you ever experience any of these troubles if you’ve purchased all of the CAMP spots and have a lot of stuff on display? Have you ever seen items on exhibit that you know aren’t on display on that CAMP that is shown AS on display? And what about the other way around?

Have you ever looked in your display case and noticed that certain items are missing, just to discover that the game’s inventory displays that all four items are present? When this occurs to me, the only way to solve it is to remove everything out of the show case and put everything in my personal inventory before re-assigning it to the display case. The things then reappeared. It’s also likely to be a source of line item nonsense.
